Want to help buy a heifer or a pig for a needy family?
Want a chance to get your name in Patrick Rothfuss‘s second novel, The Wise Man’s Fear?
Now you can do both at the same time!
Go to Rev. Rothfuss’s blog and purchase raffle tickets. The winner gets to choose a name for one of the book characters. Mr. Rothfuss says, “… the two of us will have a talk about how your name, or a variation of it, will fit into my book. Something that will make us both happy.”
ALL proceeds go to Heifer International, a charity which helps needy people by giving them resources and training to help them build a better life and encourages them to use their bounty to help others.
While I was exploring Heifer International’s site today, I noticed that Mr. Rothfuss is currently their top fundraiser. That’s really cool. I’m glad to know that some of the money I spent on my hardback copy of The Name of the Wind and the money I plan to spend on the audio versions of both books is going to a great cause.
I’ll be entering my name in Pat’s contest, so when you read that Kvothe has a crush on the beautiful raven-haired, green-eyed, buxom Kat Hooper, you’ll know that’s me!

I give Heifer International gifts to several people every year. What a great contest!
This is an awesome charity. I love it when a charity thinks long term rather than immediate hand outs. Also if anyone has not yet started reading Rothfuss’s blog, please do so. It’s as entertaining as his books.
I love Heifer. I gift people regularly from their catalog. It’s awesome to tell people you bought them a llama, but you didn’t want to make them scoop llama poop in their backyard, so you gave it to a family in Peru to take care of it for them.
Hey! Heifer Portland Retweeted us! See it in the sidebar? Cool!
This is my favorite charity. Very cool.
I was following his blog last year while he was doing the fundraiser. It was an amazing thing to watch–especially when he posted the image of the final check that he wrote!
Cool that he’s doing it again this year.
Tia, how much was it???
I absolutely loved The Name of the Wind and I can’t wait to read The Wise Man’s Fear! Anyone know when it’s coming out? It was on my Amazon wishlist and disappeared one day. :(
Jamye, It’s not finished yet, so they can’t set a publication date. At this point, I think it’s not possible for it to be out before next summer, and I’d guess that fall is more likely. But that’s a guess.
